Pinal County court records are documentary materials that contain pertinent information about legal proceedings heard by local courts within the county. They provide official accounts of what transpired during relevant legal proceedings, which ensures transparency and accountability of the local judiciary. Some examples of these records include court orders, judgments, transcripts, petitions, motions, pleadings, dockets, and minute entries.

The Pinal County Clerk of the Superior Court is the official countywide custodian of court records. Arizona Supreme Court Rule 123 governs access to these records, unlike other public records, such as arrest information and vital records, which are subject to Arizona Public Records laws.

Are Pinal County Court Records Public?

According to Arizona Supreme Court Rule 123, Pinal County court records are considered public and available to everyone who requests them. However, this rule is not absolute. The following types of information and court records are exempt from public access under the rule;

  • Juvenile records
  • Protective orders
  • Adoption records
  • Pre-charge arrest warrants
  • Mental health case records
  • Sealed or expunged records
  • Records designated as confidential pursuant to federal or state laws

What Information is Available in Pinal County Court Records?

Information available in Pinal County court records typically varies depending on the type of case. Nonetheless, general information found in most court records includes, but is not limited to, the following.

  • Case’s party name
  • Case number
  • Case category (i.e., civil or criminal)
  • Filing date
  • Documents filed in the case
  • Court and judge details
  • Disposition date.

Pinal County Court Records Search

Pinal County court record search may be conducted through the county’s Clerk of the Superior Court or by using resources provided by the Arizona Judiciary.

  • Online Access - The Arizona Judiciary offers a Case Search portal that allows individuals to search and access public information about cases heard by various courts across Arizona, including those in Pinal County. The portal is accessible for free and searchable by case party name or case number. The Arizona Judiciary also offers the eAccess portal, which individuals may use to search for and access court documents for criminal and civil cases filed on or after July 1, 2010, and handled by the Pinal County Superior Court and other Superior Courts in Arizona. Record seeker must register an account to use the eAccess portal. Furthermore, they may use the portal on a pay-as-you-go basis at $10 per downloaded document, or subscribe for a monthly fee. The subscription fee ranges between $80 for up to 20 document downloads per month on the lower end to $10,000 for up to 5,000 document downloads per month on the highest end.
  • Electronic Request - Interested persons may request copies of Pinal County court records by completing the County Clerk of Superior Court’s Request for Court Record form and submitting it electronically. After submission, the requester will receive details on the fees required to process their request within five (5) business days. These fees may be paid through the clerk’s payment website or by mail. Mail-in payment may be made by mailing a check or money order for the due amount payable to the Pinal County Clerk of Superior Court, with the request form and a self-addressed stamped envelope to;

Record seekers may be charged the following fees when requesting court records from the Pinal County Clerk of the Superior Court:

Pinal County Courthouse Locations

There are three (3) types of courts in Pinal County: the Superior Courts, Justice Courts, and Municipal Courts. The Superior courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction that can handle most civil and criminal cases. Meanwhile, Justice Courts, also known as Justice of the Peace Courts, and Municipal Courts are trial courts of limited jurisdiction. Justice Courts have civil jurisdiction over claims of $10,000 or less and shared jurisdiction with the Superior Court over landlord/tenant dispute cases involving damages between $5,000 and $10,000. The Justice Court also has criminal jurisdiction over the following types of cases:

  • Petty offenses and misdemeanors.
  • Assault or battery.
  • Willful injury to property or breaching the peace
  • Misdemeanors and criminal offenses that are punishable by a maximum fine of $2,500, imprisonment of up to six (6) months in a county jail, or both.
  • Issuing warrants and conducting preliminary hearings for felonies.

On the other hand, municipal courts have criminal jurisdiction over misdemeanor and petty offenses committed within their respective cities. They also have shared jurisdiction with the Justice Court over state law violations committed within their city’s limits. Criminal Records Access in Pinal County

Per A.R.S. § 41-1750, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Repository Section is the Central State Repository (CSR) for all Arizona Criminal Records, including those generated in Pinal County. These records typically contain a subject’s arrest and disposition information that has been reported to the CSR.

In accordance with Arizona state laws, criminal records maintained by the CSR are restricted and are only available to authorized individuals and agencies. The CSR does not perform criminal history checks for private citizens, private employers, or out-of-state agencies for employment, immigration, visa application, or foreign adoption purposes.

Conversely, certain noncriminal justice agencies in Arizona, authorized under A.R.S. § 41-1750(G) and Public Law 92-544, can receive criminal history records for the CSR by applying through the Noncriminal Justice (NCJ) Compliance Program. Additionally, an individual can request their personal criminal history from the CSR through the AZDPS portal or by contacting the Central State Repository Section at (602) 223-2000. Note that they must have an account to access the AZDPS portal and provide their fingerprint card to facilitate their request.

On the other hand, interested persons may search for information on criminal cases in Pinal County through the Arizona Judiciary’s Case Search portal. They may also search for court records of criminal cases handled by the Pinal Superior Court from July 1, 2010, to the present through the Arizona Judiciary’s eAccess portal. Alternatively, they may submit an electronic request for court records of the sought-after criminal case through the Pinal County Clerk of Superior Court.

Pinal County Probate Records

Pinal County probate records are official documents that contain information about the administration of a decedent’s estate, as well as other legal cases, such as Guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, handled by the Probate Division of Pinal County Superior Court. These documents include, but are not limited to, wills, letters of administration, asset inventories, creditor claims, and petitions for guardianship or conservatorship.

Generally, Pinal County probate records are considered court records. Thus, they are subject to Arizona Supreme Court Rule 123, making them public. However, the following probate records and information are confidential per Rule 8 of the Arizona Rules of Probate Procedure:

  • Probate information form filed under Rule 13
  • Medical reports
  • Budget filed under Rule 45
  • A credit record
  • A living person’s social security number
  • Financial account number.

In Pinal County, interested persons can order public probate court records through the Pinal County Clerk of the Superior Court. They may use the clerk’s Public Record Request form to submit requests electronically. Alternatively, they may visit the clerk’s office during office hours to request in person, especially for confidential records.

Pinal County Family Court Records

Pinal County Family Court is a division of the County Superior Court that handles family law cases, including divorce, paternity establishment, child support, and parenting time. Similar to other types of cases handled by the Pinal County Superior Court, court records of family law cases are preserved by the County Clerk of the Superior Court. Thus, record seekers may use the clerk’s Public Records Request form to submit electronic requests for family court records. In-person requests may also be made at the clerk’s office during office hours.

Federal Court Records in Pinal County

The United States District Court for the District of Arizona is responsible for handling federal cases in Pinal County. These include federal civil, criminal, and bankruptcy cases, as well as federal appellate cases. This federal court has four (4) courthouses, with the closest to Pinal County in Phoenix, Arizona.

Depending on when a federal case was filed, interested persons can request or access the case’s public court records through the court Clerk’s Office or the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) portal. Generally, court records filed before August 1, 2005, are available through the Clerk’s Office for five (5) years after the case’s closure. Afterwards, they are sent to the Federal Records Center. Meanwhile, most federal court documents are available through the PACER portal.

Additionally, there are public access computers and microfiche indexes in the Customer Service Lobby of the clerk’s office that interested persons can use to search for free court records of relevant federal cases. On the other hand, individuals must register to use PACER. They will be charged a $0.10 per page fee, capped at $3.00 per document, to access case information on PACER. However, these fees are waived when users spend $30 or less in a quarter.
